Senior Community Liaison Manager, Myanmar

The starting salary for this position is £40,029 GBP (approx. $52,000 USD) per annum all allowances.

About the Myanmar programme:

Following decades of armed conflict, Myanmar has one of the highest levels of landmine contamination in the world. We have worked there since 2013 and now have operations in four states. MAG’s role in Myanmar is to support the development of national mine action approaches and provide risk education to local communities and INGO’s living and working in contaminated areas.

About the role:

MAG’s community based approach is particularly pertinent in the Myanmar context, where, in order to gain access to communities, strong relationships need to be established at all levels of society. Reporting to the Country Director, and as a member of the programme Senior Management Team, you will be responsible, with support from the Country Director, for developing and implementing our community liaison strategy and operationally managing MAG’s national partners to ensure effective delivery of Community Liaison and Risk Education activities. Training, supporting and coaching local CL staff and partners will also be a key part of the role, as will representing MAG with relevant stakeholders in Myanmar and inputting into the development of donor proposals and reports.

About you:

You will be a tenacious and resilient character that can demonstrate a wealth of experience working overseas in international aid/development, particularly in Southeast Asia, with expertise leading, managing and developing national staff. In addition, you should have experience in designing and delivering formal or informal training, with the ability to organise and coordinate activities or projects. You will need a proven track record in influencing, liaising and building relationships with a range of stakeholders, including national partners and authorities, non-state actors/ethnic armed groups, donors and NGOs. You should have the ability to represent MAG at the highest levels and be able to work diplomatically in a politically and culturally sensitive environment. You should be aware, this is a field-based role, which is often located in remote project areas with basic amenities, so you will need to be able to live and work in challenging environments, where the need for your skills and MAG’s work is most.

We would particularly encourage applications from individuals with previous experience of working in Myanmar.
