Regional Mechanical Support Manager, Asia Pacific

The starting salary package for this position is £55,856 GBP / approx. $69,000 USD including all allowances

About the Asia Pacific region at MAG:

MAG supports the development of countries emerging from conflict by finding and destroying the Explosive Ordnance (EO), so that communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury. The main area of focus in MAG’s programmes across the Asia Pacific region is Humanitarian Mine Action work, working on the clearance of landmines, cluster munitions and other EO.  The countries in this region that we work in currently are Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos.

About the role:

The Regional Mechanical Support Manager will be responsible for ensuring MAG’s vehicle fleet and light and heavy plant machinery are managed and maintained in such a manner as to support operations in the most efficient and safe way possible across the Asia Pacific region. This will be done through both in person visits to programmes to deliver practical technical support as well as through remote support and advice as required. This is an interesting and diverse role whereby the support requirements in each programme may be slightly different, however the key areas of responsibility will include;

  • Training and mentoring local staff to strengthen their capacity in the areas of light and heavy plant machinery and fleet maintenance;
  • Development, roll out and strengthening of policies, procedures and systems
  • Infrastructure development, providing advice on assets and requirements to programmes
  • Proactively identifying measures that can be taken to improve the organisations’ environmental footprint across the region with regards to management of light and heavy plant machinery and fleet assets.
  • Providing technical input into investigations related to Road Traffic Accidents and light and heavy plant machinery as required.

About you:

The successful candidate will have experience in the management of light and heavy plant machinery as well as  have experience of maintaining and repairing a large fleet of vehicles and a wide range of mechanical assets; this includes diagnostics; welding (welding/arc welding specific, TIG and MIG welding desirable) and preventative maintenance. The successful candidate will also need to have experience managing and capacity building local staff and in designing and delivering training in the repair and maintenance of fleet and other machinery.

We are looking for a dynamic, pragmatic and flexible individual who has the ability to find creative solutions to issues that arise and experience of providing technical expertise to develop existing fleet management policies and procedures. Whilst experience in mine action is not required the post holder will ideally have experience of working in a developing country and an understanding of the constraints this imposes.
