Head of Support Services, Iraq

The starting salary package for this position is £61,804 per annum (c. USD $79,508) including all allowances.

About the Iraq programme:

Following decades of conflict, Iraq is heavily contaminated with landmines and other unexploded ordnance (UXO). The recent regional crisis has added to the scale of this problem. MAG has been working in Iraq since 1992 and has expanded into new areas over the last few years. We currently have approximately 700 national staff and 100 teams operating in 7 areas across Northern Iraq, in both the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) and Federal Iraq. By clearing hazardous areas, MAG has enabled new schools, roads and hospitals to be built, opened up vital trade routes and allowed communities to use their farming land in safety, giving them greater food security and an escape from poverty. Our work over the last 4 years in particular has supported the surveying and clearance of contaminated land, as well as delivering life-saving risk education for those who have fled the violence and are now seeking to return. The HQ office for the programme is in Erbil, KRI, with 6 operational bases in various locations and a support office in Baghdad.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to use your project and people management skills to lead a team of international and national staff across key support functions. Reporting to the Country Director, the post holder will be responsible for managing MAG’s Iraq’s logistics, procurement, Finance, HR and administrative functions, with added responsibility for developing national staff. You will be responsible for ensuring that all programme management systems are working to enhance efficiency and therefore you will need experience of successfully designing, implementing and promoting new systems. You will also have a key strategic and senior management role in the programme as a member of the Senior Management Team, hold responsibilities for business development and liaison with key stakeholders and acting as the Senior Manager in Country as and when required.

About you:

You will need relevant overseas experience in the NGO sector at a senior level managing projects, HR, Finance, and Logistics functions in complex large scale operations. Given the scale and size of our programme in Iraq, you’ll need to be a dynamic, motivated, flexible self-starter, able to hit the ground running.
