Communications Manager
The successful candidate can choose to work from MAG’s Manchester office or to work from home within the UK, with occasional attendance in the office, as required.
The starting salary for this position is £37,452 per annum (plus contributory pension)
The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) finds and destroys landmines and unexploded bombs to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people stay safe and rebuild their lives after war. We also campaign for a landmine-free world, work to remove small arms from fragile communities and deliver innovative risk education lessons to those forced to live with the deadly contamination of conflict. We employ some 5,500 committed and highly skilled people in 26 countries and are regarded as a global leader in disarmament practice and policy.
Our mission is to get to every landmine before a child does. And to save lives and build futures for those whose communities have been shattered by war. We need you to help us maximise the reach, and impact, of work that ensures people are not living in the daily fear and poverty caused by landmines and unexploded bombs.
MAG has an ambitious strategy which puts stakeholder engagement at the heart of its communications, advocacy and fundraising work. We are seeking a Communications Manager who will play a pivotal role in growing our profile, influence and supporter base.
Working as part of our Engagement Team and reporting to the Head of Advocacy and Communications, this role plays a leading role in external strategic communications, including media management, and supporting the Head of Communications and Advocacy in the development of MAG’s communications strategies. You will project manage communications campaigns, develop messaging and advise colleagues across the organisations on a range of communications issues. You will also line manage our Content Coordinator, overseeing content for MAG’s owned channels, supporting on content creation.
You must have a high degree of technical competency in strategic and digital communications, including copywriting, editing, media management and digital content creation. You will continuously seek improvement of operating procedures and practices, drawing on previous experience in either the commercial sector or comparable INGOs. You will also have first-class communications and interpersonal skills in order to influence, motivate, persuade and develop others, including non-communications experts across different cultures. This is a fast-paced and challenging role, which will require high levels of initiative and strong multi-tasking skills. You will also be a creative, flexible, solution-focused communications professional committed to MAG's goals.
There will also be the opportunity for some international travel in order to visit our programmes in the Middle East, Africa or South East Asia.
