Mechanical Support Manager, Ukraine
The starting salary package for this position is £59,856 GBP / approx. $77,000 USD, including all allowances
About the Ukraine Programme:
Since the Russian invasion of 24th February 2022, Ukraine has been subjected to heavy artillery bombardment, missile and air strikes, as well as the use of landmines and cluster munitions. The scale of the conflict and the use of high impact and indiscriminate weapons requires an urgent and extensive response. MAG responded to the crisis in 2022 and is now in a dynamic scale up phase having secured funding for 2023/24 and is conducting explosive ordnance risk education and recruiting multiple demining teams. The programme has representation in Kyiv and Kropyvnytski.
About the role:
You will be responsible for ensuring MAG’s light and heavy plant machinery are managed and maintained in such a manner as to support operations in the most efficient and safe way possible. This will be done through both in person visits to deliver practical technical support as well as through remote support and advice as required. Your key areas of responsibility will include:
- Ensuring all mechanical assets are correctly operated, serviced, maintained, repaired, and have appropriate spares.
- Training and mentoring local staff to strengthen their capacity in the areas of light and heavy plant machinery and fleet maintenance.
- Infrastructure development, including reviewing machinery, fuel supply, and storage infrastructure, and leading on design and construction of related projects as directed.
- Proactively identifying measures that can be taken to improve the organisations’ environmental footprint with regards to management of light and heavy plant machinery and fleet assets.
- Providing technical input into investigations related to Road Traffic Accidents and light and heavy plant machinery as required.
- Development, roll out and strengthening of related policies, procedures and systems.
About you:
You will have experience in the management of light and heavy plant machinery as well as experience of maintaining and repairing a large fleet of vehicles and a wide range of mechanical assets including MineWolfs. This includes diagnostics, welding (welding/arc welding specific, TIG and MIG welding desirable) and preventative maintenance. You will also need to have experience managing and capacity building local staff and in designing and delivering training in the repair and maintenance of fleet and other machinery.
We are looking for a determined, pragmatic and flexible individual who has the ability to find creative solutions to issues that arise and experience of providing technical expertise to develop existing fleet management policies and procedures. Whilst experience in mine action is not required the post holder will ideally have experience of working in a developing country and an understanding of the constraints this imposes.
